Conference Themes

The research papers that will be presented at the conference and its seminars will address the following issues, whether by application on Egyptian reality, or by presenting relevant regional and international experiences on both Macro and Sectoral levels.

First Theme:

The relationship between climate change and sustainable development in light of global and regional experiences

  1. Climate change developments at the UN Sustainable Development Goals agenda: SDGs, and the interrelationship between climate change goal and the other sustainable development goals.
  2. International experiences in mitigation actions, adaptation and effective dealing with climate change issues: transformations to green economies, lower carbon infrastructure, and clean renewable energy.
  3. The Roles of International Institutions and Initiatives: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Green Climate Fund (GCF), Coalition for Climate Resilient Investment (CCRI).
  4. Arab and African experiences in mitigation procedures, adaptation, and effective handling of climate change issues.
  5.  The relationship between climate change, crises and natural disasters management.

Second Theme:

Requirements and challenges for promoting effective mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change issues to support sustainable development

  1. Requirements and challenges of planning and designing macro -sectoral policies for climate change within the framework of sustainable development strategies & plans, and environmental & urban policies.
  2. Requirements and challenges of governance and climate change management at both macro and sectoral levels (legislative frameworks, institutional frameworks, roles coordination, monitoring and evaluation).
  3. Requirements and challenges of transition to green economies, green technology, green and sustainable cities, clean renewable energy, and lower carbon transportation.
  4. Requirements and challenges of green finance programs (funding sources- funding priorities).
  5. Relevant capacity building requirements and challenges (institutional capabilities, human capabilities, technological, technical and research capabilities, negotiation, and crises & disasters management).
  6. Requirements and challenges of instilling awareness and culture of dealing with climate change risks in societies.

Third Theme:

The Climate Change in Egypt: Observations, Projections, Impacts, and Implication on Development and Sustainability

  1. The issue of climate change in sustainable development strategy Vision 2030 and its updates.
  2. Climate change Impact projection, threats, and future risks (such as sea level rises) on Coastal regions, Crop yields, Food security, Water stress and drought, flooding, and rainfall.
  3. Climate change impact sector (energy sector, ecosystems, and etc.) and required mitigation action.
  4. The climate change implication on the Egyptian economy by years 2030 and 2060.
  5. Prioritization of climate change Adaptation and mitigation action in the Egyptian strategies, plans and policies (Evaluation, challenges, obstacles and consideration).
  6. Stakeholders’ roles and responsibilities in dealing with climate change in Egypt (governmental bodies, the private sector, entrepreneurship, and NGOs).
  7. Green Fund priorities and incentives, capacity building, and harnessing the emerging clean, green and environmentally friendly technologies in all development sectors.
  8. Public awareness, and strengthening community participation in combating climate change and its impact, focusing on the local level (Egyptian governorates).
  9. CLIMATE PARTNERSHIPS: international and regional partnerships for climate change mitigation and adaptation (international agreements, and regional partnerships especially Arab and African ones).
